GOVERNOR SHERRILL STATEMENT ON NEW JERSEY’S BLUE WAVE

PRINCETON, NJ — Governor Mikie Sherrill released the following statement on the results of the 2026 midterms:

“Our message of driving down costs, taking care of our kids, bringing accountability to government, and standing up to Trump’s chaos and corruption is being embraced across the country. The candidates who won tonight prove that we can challenge the status quo and bring new leadership and new solutions to our most intractable problems.

“New Jersey set the tone in 2025 for this year's midterms. We built a campaign that talked to every voter, organized and invested in Black and Latino communities, and promised to bring a different kind of leadership that delivered for hardworking families. Candidates across the country looked to New Jersey not just for hope, but for inspiration on how to win, and how to govern effectively.

“In 2026, we built on that foundation in New Jersey. We invested early in key races, providing infrastructure and tactical insights on how to build winning campaigns. I saw that in action again and again as I crisscrossed the state this year from Cape May to Bergen County.

“I am incredibly grateful to every candidate who stepped up to serve our state. I especially want to recognize Rebecca Bennett and Zack Mullock, who flipped two critical U.S. House seats, and Nellie Pou, who defended her frontline district. They and their teams, including the thousands of volunteers who gave their time, should be very proud today of the campaigns they built and the plans they laid out to serve the people of this state.

“I need strong partners in Washington because for every step forward we take to drive down costs, Trump takes ten steps back. We are sending a federal delegation down to Congress who will work day in and day out to make life more affordable and stand up to a president who only cares about enriching himself and his cronies.

“Tonight’s results are a shot across the bow: voters want leaders who put them first and are unafraid to take on tough challenges. A new generation of leadership is coming, and I am ready to work alongside them.”
