New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman John Currie remains unimpressed by the Governor’s management of this crisis, not to mention his staff, and he looks forward to following the Bridgegate investigation into this important matter as it proceeds.

(Trenton) — Today, New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman John Currie issued the following statement in regard to Governor Christie’s lengthy and confusing performance in front of reporters.

“Governor Christie’s attempt at contrition for the catastrophic failure of his administration was undermined by everything that followed.”

“For example, why is it relevant that the Governor feels sad?”

“Anyone who believes that Governor Christie adequately accepted responsibility for Bridgegate today misses the point: Christie’s core team took actions that imperiled the people of New Jersey.”

“Many of the Governor’s responses today were confusing and contradictory, and only compel more questions. For instance, who was Christie Deputy Chief of Staff Bridget Kelly communicating with in texts, and why were names and messages redacted in documents provided to legislators? And why was the Governor so disinterested in this issue and unaware of his staff’s involvement for four months?

“I remain unimpressed by the Governor’s management of this crisis, not to mention his staff. And I look forward to following the investigation into this important matter as it proceeds.”

“As hearings into this matter continue, Governor Christie owes us an explanation for why his core team appears to have such disdain for the public trust and how they could seriously abuse the power of the governor’s office right under his nose.

“This time, I suggest that the governor try a new approach when answering questions: honesty.”
