BRIDGEWATER, NJ — January 22, 2020 – New Jersey Democrats packed the Bridgewater Marriott last night to show their enthusiastic backing of four frontline members of Congress as they face re-election later this year.
The event raised funds for the state’s four members of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s 2019-2020 Frontline Program, designed to help Democrats protect the historic gains made in the Blue Wave election of 2018: Rep. Andy Kim (D-03); Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-05); Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-07); and Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-11).
Governor Phil Murphy attended the event with First Lady Tammy Murphy as special guests.
“Our frontline members of Congress are hardworking, tough and smart, fighting to make health care more affordable, fund our public schools, and reduce property taxes,” said Governor Murphy. “Andy, Josh, Tom and Mikie represent districts that were once considered longshots for Democrats. We need to do everything we can to send them back to Washington to keep fighting for New Jersey families.”
Welcoming the frontline members to Somerset County was Peg Schaffer, NJDSC Vice Chair and Somerset County Democratic Chair, “As heartening as it was to watch the Blue Wave sweep in, we can’t afford to rest now. The significance of the 2020 elections cannot be underestimated, and these four outstanding leaders need our support to continue their vital work in Washington.”
“Our Frontline freshman members represent a new generation of bipartisan leaders who understand the kitchen-table issues important to New Jersey families,” said John Currie, Chair of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee. “They sailed into Congress on the Blue Wave, and with our support, they can keep the momentum going to continue fighting for the middle class.”
