New Jerseyans Abroad

This guide is here to help members of the military, uniformed services, and civilians living overseas vote in New Jersey’s elections.

Military Voters

You qualify as a military voter if:

  • You’re a New Jersey resident serving in the military or other uniformed services, and you’ll be away from your NJ residence on Election Day.

  • You may be stationed elsewhere in New Jersey, in another state, or outside the U.S.

  • This includes:

    • Members of the Uniformed Services, Merchant Marine, Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, or NOAA.

    • Spouses and dependents of these service members also qualify as military voters.

Overseas Voters

You qualify as an overseas voter if:

  • You’re a U.S. citizen currently living outside the United States, and

  • You last lived in New Jersey before leaving the country.

You don’t need to have been registered in New Jersey before moving abroad, but you must have lived in NJ and met the qualifications to register and vote here.

Voter Registration Process

All military voters and overseas voters must be registered to vote in order to obtain a ballot for the June Election.

You can use a state form here.

Or a federal postcard application ("FPCA") here.

Mail-in Ballot Application Process

Forms

You can use a New Jersey mail-in ballot application here.

Or a federal postcard application ("FPCA") here.

Note: ONLY the federal postcard application can be used for both voter registration and ballot request. If you use the New Jersey forms, you must separately submit a New Jersey voter registration form and a New Jersey mail-in ballot application

Applications can be obtained from your County Clerk's office or the Secretary of State Office here.

If you do not know which county clerk's office to send the application, you should contact the New Jersey Division of Elections or call 1-877-NJVOTER

Delivery Options for Receiving A Ballot:

You can request to receive a ballot by air-mail, fax or email.

  • If you request you receive a ballot by fax, you must provide a telephone number on the application.

  • If you request you receive a ballot by email, you must provide an email address on the application.
