TRENTON, NJ — With Republican gubernatorial candidate Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli’s decision to headline a “Stop the Steal” rally and his continued lies about the event gaining additional media scrutiny, it’s worth looking at yet another instance of Ciattarelli embracing Trumpism and its dangerous conspiracy theories. Like many other extreme Republicans, Ciattarelli refused to publicly acknowledge that Joe Biden won the 2020 Presidential Election for weeks after all the votes were counted and certified — in fact, Ciattarelli carried on this outrageous lie until after the January 6th U.S. Capitol Insurrection

“Jack Ciattarelli can’t get any more Trump-like than lying about being caught in a lie. When it comes to enabling Donald Trump, Assemblyman Ciattarelli’s behavior is deliberate, extreme, and out-of-touch with New Jersey. And continuing to lie about it, in spite of overwhelming evidence, is disqualifying. At a time when the dividing line in the Republican Party was between those who still held some shred of loyalty to our democracy and those who embraced Donald Trump’s attempted coup, Jack Ciattarelli stood with the Trumpers, the conspiracy theorists, and the QAnon believers,” said NJDSC Executive Director Saily Avelenda. “Ciattarelli’s lack of leadership and refusal to tell the truth have marked his candidacy from the start as wrong for New Jersey.”
