Chairman’s Update: Phase 2 Project, Mail-in Voting, Juneteenth, and more

Democrat,

As we mark the Juneteenth holiday today it comes at a time when our country is experiencing activism for racial justice in a way we have not seen since the days of the civil rights movement. This is a long overdue reckoning that needs to continue if we are to move forward together. My friend and our Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver expressed this beautifully in her Juneteenth message this morning, and you can read that here for yourself and join the conversation about how we can all work together for a more just society, especially today.

GOV. MURPHY UPDATE

While New Jersey is continuing to progress into Stage 2 of Governor Murphy’s safe reopening plan we are beginning to see more and more signs of normalcy in our state. Restaurants opened this week for outdoor dining in what appears to be a major success, and soon both personal care businesses and indoor malls will open their doors to visitors again. These are all welcome signs that the work we are doing together to flatten the curve is paying off.

The story isn’t so positive everywhere, unfortunately. States that moved quickly to reopen before the data and health experts advised are now seeing the kind of exponential growth in new COVID-19 cases that we sadly remember seeing here in March and April. But here in New Jersey, our rate of virus transmission is now among the lowest in the nation, meaning that when someone gets COVID-19 they are spreading it to fewer other people than in most states. That’s why social distancing works.

We can’t let up now, so we need to keep being smart. Wear a mask when out in public, stay six feet apart from others, wash your hands and keep doing what is necessary for our state to stay on the right path.

For up to date information regarding new cases and directives regarding the Coronavirus, visit the state’s dedicated COVID-19 Information Hub or follow Governor Murphy’s official pages on social media.
