ELECTED DEMOCRATS ACROSS THE GARDEN STATE ARE CELEBRATING THE NJDSC’s LGBT CAUCUS:
Senator Cory Booker
Hearty welcome to @NJLGBTDems! Proud to see my party support NJ's first LGBT Caucus. Bold step forward for #equality in the Garden State.
Congressman Rush Holt
"In today’s America, protecting LGBT rights is the frontier in our struggle for civil rights for all. The formation of the LGBT Caucus in the Democratic State Committee is a step toward advancing that frontier, and I look forward to working with the Caucus this year and beyond."
Congressman Frank Pallone
“Thank you to Chairman Currie for his leadership of the Party, and the creation of the LGBT caucus. This caucus will bring together members of the LGBT community and allies to not only ensure our Party maintains a strong voice in the fight for LGBT equality, but I hope will also help to recruit candidates, inform our Party’s platform, and help our Party continue to be inclusive and accepting of every community. Last year’s marriage victory was a truly historic moment for our State, however, the struggle for full equality for all people continues.”
Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr.
“I applaud Chairman Currie for helping New Jersey take yet another step in our fight for equality for all by forming a LGBT caucus within the Democratic State Committee,” said U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09). “The formation of this caucus reinforces New Jersey’s commitment to equal rights and ensures that the voice of the LGBT community will be heard throughout the Garden State and beyond.”
Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr.
"Today I add my voice of support to the New Jersey Democratic State Committee’s formation of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Caucus. As a Member of Congress, I join you in this worldwide movement that advocates for the full acceptance of LGBT individuals in society. The Caucus will add a new strength to the Party by continuing to fight for legislation that guarantees fair treatment in employment, education, housing, public places and government programs regardless of a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity. I want to commend Chairman Currie for his leadership in ensuring that our Party represents true democratic values of social equality for all."
Senate President Steve Sweeney
"The LGBT caucus is a much welcomed addition to the Democratic Party in New Jersey," said Senate President Steve Sweeney. "Democrats, from Senators Ray Lesniak and Loretta Weinberg to Assemblymen Reed Gusciora and Tim Eustace, have led the fight for equality in this state for years. I look forward to working with the new caucus."
Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg
"I applaud the State Committee for establishing a caucus to give the LGBT community an active and ongoing role in the Democratic Party in New Jersey. Hearing the voices of all of our colleagues serves the best interests of the Party, the state and those in the LGBT community. I look forward to working together with the caucus on issues that are important to all of us."
Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-32)
"Chairman Currie made a great decision to establish an LGBT caucus and I commend the Democratic State Committee for always showing a strong commitment to including diverse voices in our party. The LGBT community is one of the most vital pillars of the progressive movement and this new caucus will allow our party to hear directly from them the issues that matter most and the causes Democrats in New Jersey should be championing," said Prieto, who also serves as Chairman of the Hudson County Democratic Organization.
Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald
"I am thrilled to see our state Democratic Party once again show its strong commitment to fighting for equality of LGBT New Jerseyans. As Democrats, we believe in our Constitution's fundamental guarantee: every citizen should be treated equally under the law, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.”
"The success we have had in fighting for marriage equality, preventing discrimination, banning sexual orientation conversion therapy from being practiced on minors, and other key issues would not have happened without strong advocates in the LGBT community. The membership of this caucus includes some of the best and brightest activists and community leaders our state has to offer.
"I congratulate the leaders and members of this new caucus, and I look forward to working with them on the important issues facing our state."
Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop
"The LGBT Caucus of the State Democratic Party will be a powerful voice for our State and its residents. I couldn't be more excited about the leadership of Chairman Currie and the outreach across the State as we build a stronger party."
