CURRIE ENCOURAGES MORE CORPORATE PACs TO STAND AGAINST DISCRIMINATION, DROP SUPPORT FOR REP. GARRETT

(Trenton) -- Recently, a corporate PAC, BBVA Compass, that previously supported Congressman Scott Garrett announced their decision to no longer contribute to his campaign.

The announcement follows a letter written by state Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg that was addressed to Garrett’s corporate PAC supporters and was critical of his anti-LGBT record.

“BBVA Compass should be applauded for doing the right thing and rescinding their support for Congressman Scott Garrett,” said the Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee John Currie. “I commend Leader Weinberg for bringing Scott Garrett’s backwards views to his donors' attention, and I hope other corporate PAC donors will take a stand against hate and discrimination, demanding refunds of their previous campaign contributions.”

Garrett’s anti-LGBT views have already driven away other corporate backers. Earlier this summer, a Bloomberg piece reported that the four largest public accounting firms and their trade association canceled a fundraising event for Congressman Garrett. The same piece reported that Goldman Sach’s PAC would cease making contributions to Garrett’s campaign.
