CHAIRMAN CURRIE STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR CHRISTIE'S DECISION TO HOLD INAUGURAL FESTIVITIES ON ELLIS ISLAND

(Trenton) -- Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee John Currie issued the following statement concerning Chris Christie's decision to hold his inaugural party on Ellis Island:

"Given his inconsistent positions on tuition equality for undocumented immigrants, Governor Christie is adding insult to injury with his decision to use Ellis Island for his inaugural event."

"Ellis Island is a place that recognizes the importance of immigrants to our country's rich history and cultural heritage. A gateway for millions of immigrants, it was a place where huddled masses could seek a future that held great promise.

"In contrast, Governor Christie poses a roadblock to hardworking students already in New Jersey, and his policy positions suggest that he believes certain academically-successful Garden Staters are separate and unequal. He should be ashamed to use Ellis Island for a celebration while his policies threaten the dreams of thousands of our friends and neighbors."
