(Trenton) -- In reaction to news reports that New Jersey's U.S. Attorney has convened a grand jury investigation into the scandalous political behavior of the Christie administration, John Currie, Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, issued the following statement:
"It is good to know that grand jurors are compelling witness testimony as part of a federal investigation into the scandals created by Governor Chris Christie's administration. This does not, however, represent a victory for New Jersey Democrats -- there are no winners in this chapter of New Jersey's history."
"For six months, New Jerseyans have been wanting honest answers to legitimate questions about why citizens were put in harms way and how public resources could be so badly abused. Instead, when the governor is even in New Jersey -- and not cozying-up to Republican donors elsewhere -- he has used his office and taxpayer funds for his political defense; doing everything he can to deny, distract, dissemble, and otherwise divert attention from his underlying failures."
"The governor needs to stop stonewalling and start cooperating with the legislature. But, in the meantime, I am glad that New Jersey's U.S. Attorney is being serious and diligent about investigating exactly what has gone on within the Christie administration, because Chris Christie clearly is not."
